- About Us Archive
The Quarter Turn provides a whole-school introductory workshop for teachers and leaders centred on the Science of Learning and a suite of high-impact instructional strategies. Working from a robust research base, the Quarter Turn supports schools to embed high-impact instructional strategies as a whole-school approach.
NB: The Quarter Turn provides a one-off introductory / refresher workshop. It is not designed to replicate the Masterclass Series. If you are interested in a whole-school Masterclass Series (for a cohort of 40+ participants), please contact the Teach Well team.
What does my school commit to?
Leaders should be willing to:
- Attend the workshop and support their staff on the day.
- Support teachers to trial the instructional techniques in the classroom after the workshop.
- Attend a post-workshop leader’s call to discuss key findings and next steps.
- Agree to Teach Well’s Quarter Turn Charter.
Teachers should be willing to:
- Complete the pre-readings and attend the workshop.
- Trial and apply the instructional techniques in the classroom, post-workshop.
- Share with their colleagues any progress made and impact on student learning.
The Quarter Turn features:
- A half-day or full-day workshop, delivered on site at the school, that provides an introduction to / refresher of key principles and practices.
- A focus on the Science of Learning, full participation tactics, checks for understanding, and daily reviews.
- Staff action plan to apply techniques into the classroom in the weeks following the workshop.
- A scheduled school leader call post-workshop to discuss key findings and progress.
How cognitive science, practices of master teachers, and individual teaching/learning strategies come together to form high-impact principles of instruction was particularly valuable.
The full participation resources for helping students interact meaningfully with critical content has been very helpful. Great demonstrations.”
The material is backed by the science of learning and it just makes sense, emphasising the importance of students being participants rather than spectators, and of teachers teaching in an active and explicit way.”
Who can apply?
