Design and deliver an explicit lesson using full participation, guiding and checks for understanding.

Step 1: Prepare and Practice

Write another lesson plan using one of our templates (attached below), for the lesson to be filmed. This will not be the same lesson you submitted for Task 4.1; it will be another lesson you have planned.

In a concept-focused lesson, this is the conceptual development part of the lesson (defining vocabulary, examples and non-examples, asking text-dependent questions, organising information, delivering guided notes, and sentence-level writing). In a skill-focused lesson, this is the Guided Practice/We do part of the lesson.

Refer back to the guidance provided in Practical Session 3, as well as the examples in the Lesson Library.

Step 2: Film and Upload

Your task is to film and submit 5-10 minutes of footage of an explicit lesson, for coaching feedback.

Please do not film your Daily Review section.

Video requirements
Before you film, ensure that:

1. Ensure you can get the footage off your device, for submission.
2. Choose 720p (or lower) film quality as this will produce a file that is not too large. Adjust film quality in the settings of the device as required.
3. Direct the camera at where you primarily stand and at the whiteboard/screen – we don’t need to be able to read the screen, but we do need to see what the students see.
4. Limit the movement of the camera.
5. Most of the time, the footage should record you talking and the student responses, (an occasional quiet voice/answer is ok).
6. Students are unidentifiable in the footage (not all students need to be in shot) – it works well if you place the camera somewhere towards the middle/rear of the room and the footage includes backs of student heads.
7. If students are identifiable in your footage, ensure you have permission for them to be filmed.
8. 1x 5-10 mins footage only. If you film an extended section of your lesson/review, please trim it to the 5-10 mins that you watched to complete your self-reflection.

Please note, we do not have the capacity to review any more than 5-10 minutes of video footage.

Once you have uploaded your footage, you will receive a confirmation email to your email address within 10 minutes. Please note that you will not see your submission on the LMS once it has been uploaded.

Please upload your Video Footage under 4.2 Submit your Lesson Delivery Footage.

Step 3: Reflect

Watch your video and complete the Self-reflection template (provided below).
